Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our rotational scheme across University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust and Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a variety of clinical areas, including Acute Care, Older Persons Medicine, Neurotherapy, Rehabilitation, and Paediatrics. As a Rotational Occupational Therapist, you will have the chance to develop your skills and knowledge in different settings, working with patients, carers, and multi-disciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • To establish effective communication networks with patients, carers, and colleagues, contributing to clear decision-making and discharge planning.
  • To form professional relationships with patients and carers, communicating in a way that respects their views, autonomy, and culture.
  • To communicate sensitive information regarding patient rehabilitation outcomes and discharge planning.
  • To attend and feedback relevant information at ward rounds, team meetings, and case conferences.
  • To demonstrate rehabilitation and manual handling techniques to relatives and carers prior to discharge.
  • To liaise with Dorset Integrated Health and Care System and voluntary partners to ensure optimum patient care.
  • To maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, following Trust and departmental policies.

Person Specification
  • State Registered (HCPC) or pending qualification.
  • Able to work within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
  • Student experience/placements in Acute physical inpatient areas and Community health areas.
  • Application of the OT process.
  • Use of functional assessment and activity analysis.
