Web Applications Engineer

About the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL):
We are a renowned international research organization dedicated to driving groundbreaking discoveries in molecular biology. Our RNA Resources team is seeking a talented Web Applications Engineer to spearhead the development and maintenance of our RNAcentral website and associated kubernetes infrastructure.
Your responsibilities will include overseeing the modernization and scaling of our outdated Rfam website, ensuring seamless integration with our existing technology stack.
- Maintain and enhance the existing kubernetes and django based website
- Develop and refine our existing web components and JavaScript frontend
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on shared development and process implementation.
- Participate in broader team activities, including helpdesk support, planning, design review, and process improvements.
Tech Stack Overview:
Django, Django Rest Framework, Fast API, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Ansible, React, and Angular
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience in developing comprehensive full-stack applications (verified through the interview process)
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with JavaScript and Python
- 1-2 years of experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and SQL
- Proficiency in using Git/GitHub, Unix, and Bash
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and Docker or alternative containerization technologies

Compensation Package:$160,000 - $190,000 per year
