Nottingham, Nottingham, United Kingdom Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust Full time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Senior Counsellor to lead the Diabetes Reflections Counselling Service at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The role is 8 hours and can be fulfilled alongside private practice or other counselling work.

The successful candidate will support a small team of counsellors on placement, plus one employed counsellor. They will be responsible for recruitment, liaising with training providers, and safeguarding within Reflections.

We are looking for an experienced counsellor with an ability to work respectfully across humanistic modalities. Ideally, you will have supervision and line management experience. The successful candidate will need to have experience of working with clients living with long term conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Providing supportive line management for counsellors on placement.
  2. Managing recruitment of new counsellors, including ensuring sufficient applications, interviewing, overseeing HR processes, and offering inductions.
  3. Maintaining clinical oversight of the service as a whole.
  4. Liaising with training organisations.
  5. Undertaking initial assessments.
  6. Managing the counselling waiting list.
  7. Allocating clients to counsellors.
  8. Maintaining and reviewing systems of record keeping and the management of client confidentiality.
  9. Responding to urgent clinical and safeguarding concerns.
  10. Maintaining best practice within the service using NUH values and behaviours guidance, BACP and UKCP ethical guidance, and best practice documents.
  11. Liaising with the diabetes department and contributing to initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity to expand your clinical knowledge and experience in the psychotherapeutic care of clients living with diabetes. One hour of your monthly supervision will be paid for as part of the role.

Leadership skills and service development are well supported with Band 7 training, management, and opportunities for mentoring. This post will allow a counsellor or psychotherapist with a keen interest in long term conditions to expand their clinical skill and leadership experience in a busy and responsive service.

Requirements:

  1. To provide regular supportive and valuing line management of volunteer counsellors and counsellors on placement.
  2. To oversee clinical work within the service and raise any concerns promptly with counsellors in the first instance and if not resolved, with training providers and supervisors.
  3. To be available for clinical consultation on counsellor's caseloads as needed.
  4. To liaise with training providers regularly.

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a high level of clinical expertise and leadership skills. If you are a motivated and experienced counsellor or psychotherapist looking to expand your skills and experience, we encourage you to apply.
