Role Overview

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a SEMH Teaching Assistant in our client schools in Sheffield. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs, creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic success and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, promoting social skills, emotional regulation, and academic achievement.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), ensuring students receive tailored support to overcome barriers to their education.
  • Assist in creating a positive learning environment, facilitating classroom activities, and implementing strategies to manage and improve student behavior.
  • Work closely with teachers, counselors, and other support staff to monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and resources, ensuring a high-quality educational experience for students.

Requirements

  • A recent degree or specialization in special education, psychology, social work, or a related field that is particularly relevant for SEMH teaching.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH challenges and effective support strategies.
  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • An updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
