About the Job

As a Housing Specialist at Nichols College, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Our team is dedicated to providing high-quality services and support to help people achieve stability and self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities and Expectations

  1. Provide housing navigation and case management services to families and youth at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
  2. Work closely with the Students In Transition Liaison and other community partners to identify students experiencing housing instability or homelessness.
  3. Build trusting relationships with parents/caregivers of children or unaccompanied youth and conduct assessments of family systems.
  4. Identify and connect families and youth with relevant housing resources and services.
  5. Collaborate with professional and natural support systems to provide comprehensive support services.
  6. Provide crisis intervention and case management services during and post housing crisis.
  7. Serve as a liaison between school, Olmsted County, and community services to ensure coordination and continuity of care.
  8. Develop and implement service plans based on identified and assessed needs.

Requirements and Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.
  2. OR Master's degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.
  3. Knowledge and experience in working with families and youth experiencing homelessness.
  4. Knowledge of housing resources.
  5. Thorough knowledge of the social sciences.
  6. Thorough knowledge of the principles of social work.
  7. Thorough knowledge of community resources.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people served, colleagues, public officials, and community members.
  9. Ability to lead, mentor, and train other staff.
  10. Ability to understand individual and family needs with empathy and objectivity.
