Pension Specialist Role

The Pension Specialist plays a vital role in delivering our Reward and Benefits proposition by administering and developing our pension schemes and supporting information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver end-to-end pensions administration, ensuring correct contribution calculations and timely processing through payroll.
  • Process in-month changes, including maternity, long-term sick, pay changes, opt-in or out, and requests to increase or decrease contributions.
  • Update the HR and Payroll system with accurate information and ensure seamless communication with HR, Payroll, and Finance teams.
  • Monitor and respond to pension-related queries, collate frequently asked questions, and share stock responses.
  • Work with pension providers to submit contributions and raise payment requests in line with scheme providers' timescales.
Proactive Management of Pension Activity
  • Identify areas for improvement and lead the development and delivery of new processes to streamline and optimize existing ones.
  • Develop and maintain correspondence templates, record templates, policies, and process notes, ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Proactively seek best practices and evidence to support the development of the reward and benefit proposition, staying up-to-date with market trends and pensions knowledge.
  • Manage the payroll calendar and deliver required activity, including year-end processes, cyclical auto-enrollment, AE re-certification, and annual ONS reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Systems Administrator to maintain pensions functionality in the HR and Payroll system.
Embedding Pensions within our Reward and Benefits Strategy
  • Enhance colleague understanding and awareness of the pensions benefit within the context of our overall Reward and Benefits strategy.
  • Liaise with third parties to explore ways and resources to support the enhancement of pension knowledge.
Ad-Hoc Responsibilities
  • Provide ad-hoc support to the administration of wider company benefits as required.
  • Conduct data analysis as needed.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably required.
Requirements
  • Underpinning pensions-related qualification, such as a Certificate or Diploma in Pensions Administration.
  • Deep understanding of pensions, including statutory regulations, workplace pension reform, and different scheme types.
  • Experience in designing and delivering all aspects of pension administration and associated statutory requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience of streamlining processes to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Experience working with complex data sets and multiple pension schemes, including auto-enrollment and salary sacrifice.
  • Exceptional data skills, ideally with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and comfortable working with all levels of stakeholders.
  • Naturally curious and analytical, with a strong attention to detail and drive for accuracy.
  • Tenacious, resilient, and a self-starter, able to act on own initiative with little supervision.
