Job Title: Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Learning Support Assistant to join our SEND team at a vibrant and inclusive mainstream secondary school in St Helens. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.

About the Role:
  • Provide one-on-one and group support to pupils with SEND, helping them access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
  • Work closely with the SENCO and class teachers to implement tailored learning strategies and ensure pupils' individual needs are met.
  • Support pupils in managing their emotions and behavior, promoting independence, confidence, and social skills.
  • Assist with the preparation and adaptation of learning materials to suit the needs of SEND pupils.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents/carers.
  • Collaborate with external professionals, such as educational psychologists and therapists, as required.
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an educational setting.
  • A passion for supporting pupils with SEND and understanding of various learning difficulties (e.g., ASD, ADHD, dyslexia).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
