Job Summary

GKN Aerospace is seeking a skilled Composite Operator to join our team in a variety of work shifts. As a Composite Operator, you will play a critical role in planning layouts and performing production operations to fabricate, assemble, and develop composite parts, assemblies, and molds for the aerospace industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize work areas, plan tasks with team members, and perform assigned work to meet or exceed cost, quality, and schedule needs.
  • Train other employees as needed to perform assigned tasks.
  • Assist in process problems, document issues effectively, and follow up on open issues.
  • Use hand, power, and machine tools to facilitate preparation, cleaning, and processes of molds, equipment, parts, assemblies, or machinery.
  • Follow standard and non-standard operating procedures to cut, shape, bond, lay-up, form, inject, cure, trim, drill, and make simple repairs to composite parts.
  • Record all fabrication or machine operating parameters accurately and legibly on parts, routing sheets, resident operation sheets, department documentation, or terminals.
  • Use simple inspection devices to ensure quality of operation processes performed and certify own work to establish standards.
  • Maintain a clean work environment, including assigned storage and cleaning duties, in full compliance with all internal, safety, and environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • 1 year of experience in production, assembly, inspection, and fabrication.
  • U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance and site SSA requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write written instructions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform basic shop mathematics.
  • Production performing experience, including hands-on experience with heat/oven forming, trimming with scissors/knives, and previous crafting materials to a specific shape.
  • Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus with a specific requirement for corrected vision at 20/25 or better.
  • Ability to work in a production environment and travel throughout the facilities and corporation to obtain information needed to perform job functions.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs., using proper lifting techniques.

Access to our facility is restricted under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR) to U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, U.S. refugees, asylees, or temporary residents under amnesty provisions, and properly licensed foreign persons.
