Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Obstetrician to join our team at North Middlesex University Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dedicated individual to contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care in a busy and supportive department.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful candidate will be responsible for taking a full part in delivering the undergraduate curriculum, both to trainees and medical students attached to the department. They will also be expected to contribute to the development of clinical governance, including clinical risk management and audit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality patient care in a busy and dynamic environment
  • Contribute to the development of clinical governance, including clinical risk management and audit
  • Take a full part in delivering the undergraduate curriculum, both to trainees and medical students attached to the department
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team to achieve excellent patient outcomes

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Full GMC registration
  • Medical Degree – MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
  • CCT or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of AAC
  • ATSM in advanced labour ward

Desirable Criteria

  • Higher degree MD, PhD
  • Evidence of training in risk management systems
  • Formal training in communication in difficult situations
  • Previous work in a hospital with a diverse ethnic population

Skills and Abilities

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and patients
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

Audit

Essential Criteria

  • Interest in and knowledge of clinical audit

Education

Essential Criteria

  • Evidence of taking part in postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Experience of appraisal and assessment

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria

  • Understanding of clinical governance (including clinical risk management & audit)
  • Evidence-based medical practice
  • Evidence of guideline practice

Management and Organisation

Essential Criteria

  • Basic management skills
  • Organisational skills
  • Basic understanding of financial regulations
  • Understanding good record keeping
