Job Title: Specialised/Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Cardiac Physiologist to join our Diagnostic Cardiology team as part of our Echocardiography service. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking routine and complex diagnostic transthoracic echocardiography and cardiac ultrasound investigations, interpreting results, and providing accurate clinical reports that can be clearly understood by physicians not experienced in echocardiography.

Main Duties:

  • To support the Cardiac Ultrasound Service for the STHT by providing a high standard of work within Echocardiography that meets organisational, professional, and individual needs for the Diagnostic Cardiology Unit.
  • To provide leadership, training, and education in the clinical areas, enabling staff to develop the clinical skills and competencies required to deliver a high-quality diagnostic echo service, responsive to changing needs.
  • To work alongside other senior members of the team to deliver a highly intensive in-house Echo training programme, as well as supporting the development of a regional Echo Training website.
  • To undertake clinical supervision and training of other qualified professionals, including physicians, junior, and trainee physiological staff.
  • To liaise effectively with the Lead Echocardiographer and Lead Trainer in Echo to ensure that departmental and BSE guidelines are maintained and up-to-date with current clinical and technical practice.
  • To help develop specialist services, participate in other CPD activities to maintain own competencies.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • MSc Clinical Science (Cardiac, Vascular, Respiratory, and Sleep Sciences) or other relevant Level 7 academic qualification, or BTEC/HNC in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurements, or BSc in Clinical Physiology with relevant experience and ability to demonstrate working at Masters/Academic Level 7 level.
  • SCST parts I & II (if applicable to qualification route).
  • British Society of Echocardiography Adult Proficiency Accreditation.
  • Professional Registration with Academy of Healthcare Science or Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Clinical Physiology (Cardiology)/Healthcare Science (Cardiology) or equivalent qualification, or relevant degree and the Certificate of Completion for the Echocardiography Training Programme (CCETP).
  • Registered or eligible to register with RCCP, AHCS, or HCPC, or eligible for PTP/STP equivalence.
  • BSE written assessment completed.
  • Near completion of BSE practical assessment.

Experience:

  • Experience in providing specialised, unsupervised diagnostic reports to an appropriate level and highlighting urgent findings.
  • Ability to deliver hands-on training and support junior members of staff, Specialist Registrars, or other medical professionals as required.
  • Experience of providing a wide range of invasive and non-invasive investigations.
  • Experience in leadership, supervision, and assessment.
  • Experience of providing a wide range of diagnostic investigations.
  • Performing transthoracic echocardiograms to a high standard independently in accordance with BSE guidelines and departmental minimum standards.
  • Demonstrating Continual Professional Development as per British Society of Echocardiography Guidelines.
  • Professional membership of relevant professional bodies obtained by examination, British Society of Echocardiography.
