User Experience Design Specialist, Digital Innovation


The User Experience Design Specialist will play a key role in shaping the digital experience of Bloomsbury Academic, Professional and Special Interest divisions. Reporting to the Bloomsbury Head of UX, this role will contribute to the definition, implementation and delivery of engaging, accessible products and excellent user experiences for our global customer base of academic institutions.


This position will build on the success of our existing digital resources, which have won numerous accolades for their quality of design and usability. The UX Designer will help develop evidence-based design practices, enabling short- and long-term innovation in our platform development. Close collaboration with the Product Management and Technology teams will be essential in developing, evaluating and iterating the user experience.


Key Responsibilities



  • Conduct user experience research and analysis to understand our users' journeys and needs
  • Translate findings into clear and prioritised business requirements for a programme of continuous improvement
  • Produce designs to assist with usability testing, internal discussion, presentations to stakeholders, and delivery, encompassing interface design within a tested and established design language; also basic UX writing, and interaction flows
  • Ensure that platforms comply with accessibility standards
  • Identify improvements to the team's processes and workflow

Requirements



  • A proactive, 'can-do' attitude, with a keen curiosity and willingness to learn
  • An excellent eye for detail and nuance, and a logical, problem-solving approach
  • Demonstrated experience of user experience work
  • Cross-functional team collaboration, including stakeholder management
  • Ability to understand the specific needs of a varied user base of students, scholars, librarians and practitioners in visual and applied arts, performing arts, humanities, social sciences, law and finance

Additional Information


The role is a full-time, permanent position with a salary pay point of up to £40,000 depending on experience. The role is based at our London office, 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP, on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are Wednesday and Thursday.
