About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for handling claims related to P&I and FDD services, providing expert advice to members based in Korea and Southeast Asia.

This is a senior-level position within the Eastern Syndicate, which covers members from the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, and across Asia to Australia.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To promote relationships between the Club and existing members, representing the Club at a senior level.
  • To handle assigned claims according to company procedures, provide advice on claims-related issues, and identify opportunities for loss prevention.
  • To assist the Syndicate Manager or Claims Director in allocating, delegating, monitoring, and supervising claims work where necessary, ensuring consistency of claims handling across the team.
  • To process large claims in line with company operating procedures when requested by the Syndicate Manager or Claims Director.
  • To provide cover in the absence of the Syndicate Manager or Claims Director.
  • To assist in developing the capabilities of other team members to maximize their potential.
  • To demonstrate expertise in specific claim areas and provide guidance to other team members.
  • To ensure that all electronic correspondence related to claim files is promptly and correctly filed according to agreed working practices.
  • To contribute to the continuous development of company procedures and systems.
  • To produce relevant articles for inclusion in Club publications.
  • To participate in meetings and engagements with brokers, service providers, Club correspondents, and lawyers.
Person Specification:
  • Previous experience handling shipping litigation and dispute resolution.
  • Degree-educated with preferably LLB or LLM in Maritime Law or equivalent, with 5-6 years PQE.
  • Excellent communication skills, including negotiating, presenting, and reporting (written and verbal).
  • Ability to build and maintain effective business relationships at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Highly organized, motivated, and enthusiastic with an excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work within agreed timeframes and prioritize individual workload.
  • Proactive and able to use own initiative.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
