Long O Donnell Associates Limited is a world-class consultant providing engineering, project, and programme management solutions to clients in the energy, infrastructure, and governmental sectors.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Gas) with a broad background in gas or utilities industry projects and extensive relevant experience as a mechanical design engineer. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering gas engineering projects and support the development of our engineering frameworks, working on projects across the UK and Ireland from our Northwich office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct feasibility studies and conceptual designs for gas engineering projects.
- Undertake mechanical design of gas pipelines, mains, and associated AGI's and governors.
- Create project documentation, drawings, materials, and equipment data sheets based on client scopes.
- Prepare technical specifications, reports, and associated documentation adhering to UK and international gas industry design codes, such as IGEM and TD1-13.
- Understand baseline requirements of TD2, TD/12, and SR23.
- Perform hazardous area calculations to IGEM/SR/25 and manage updated hazardous area drawings.
- Liaise with the CAD team to produce drawings according to specifications.
- Communicate with clients regarding work progress and collaborate with third parties as necessary.
- Consult with sub-contractors.
- Engineer projects during the engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
- Provide timely and efficient technical input into main works invitations to tender, orders, projects, and tasks.
- Lead a team of engineers and support the growth of the mechanical design sector within the business.
- Enhance and build frameworks with new and existing clients.
- Offer technical advice to Long O'Donnell Associates and other members of the project services team where appropriate.
- Audit work performed by others, including outsourced contractors.
- Develop and ensure the application of project quality management systems.
- Provide resource planning for project programmes.
- Contribute to the allocated discipline's input to the wider business, such as supporting bids and quotations.
Requirements for Success:
- Prior engineering experience and competence in gas transmission and distribution engineering activities.
- Previous experience working at an engineer/senior mechanical engineer capacity in the gas, oil, energy sectors is essential.
- Stay up-to-date with current and emerging industry developments, technical, and legislative requirements, and applicable guidance documents would be beneficial.
- Full conversant knowledge and use of Microsoft Office suite of software applications.
- An HNC or degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate engineering discipline.
- Membership of an appropriate professional body and evidence of continual professional development is highly beneficial.
- Previous experience being part of an integrated multi-disciplined team is highly beneficial.
