About the Role

As a One to One Peer Support Volunteer with Light, you will play a vital role in providing dedicated and tailored support to families in need. This role requires a high level of empathy and understanding, as you will be working closely with individuals to address their unique challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Support and Guidance: Offer one-to-one support to parents or expectant mothers, providing a listening ear and guidance on how to navigate their situation.
  • Assess and Feedback: Regularly assess the family's situation and provide feedback to the Volunteer Coordinators on any concerns or issues that arise.
  • Promote Mental Health and Wellbeing: Encourage and support the mental health and wellbeing of the individuals you work with, providing them with information on relevant services and resources.
  • Attend Training and Development: Participate in necessary training and development opportunities to ensure you have the skills and knowledge required to excel in this role.
  • Confidentiality and Boundaries: Understand and maintain confidentiality, as well as adhere to Light's safeguarding and lone-working policies and procedures.
Requirements and Qualities
  • Excellent Listening Skills: Possess good listening skills and the ability to empathize with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Caring and Positive Attitude: Demonstrate a caring and positive attitude towards helping and supporting families.
  • Interest in Women's Mental Health: Have an interest in women's mental health around childbirth and be willing to learn and develop your knowledge in this area.
  • Non-Judgmental and Inclusive: Possess a non-judgmental attitude and an awareness of equal opportunities principles, ensuring you can work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Expenses and Support

As a One to One Peer Support Volunteer with Light, you will be reimbursed for reasonable expenses incurred while volunteering, including travel expenses, meal expenses, and parking fees.
