This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a trainee Ophthalmologist to gain advanced sub-specialty training in Paediatric Ophthalmology at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.

The Clinical Fellowship is designed for a candidate who has completed their ophthalmology training and wishes to subspecialise in paediatric ophthalmology. The post offers wide clinical experience in the management of paediatric eye disease, including paediatric cataract, strabismus, paediatric glaucoma, paediatric neuroophthalmology, paediatric uveitis, genetic eye disease and retinopathy of prematurity.

The fellow will gain experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment through close liaison with the orthoptists, optometrists, paediatricians including paediatric rheumatologists and geneticists.

Main duties of the job

Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Ophthalmology (Locally Employed Doctor) at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital

Key responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and surgical experience in paediatric cataract and glaucoma, ocular motility, retinopathy of prematurity, paediatric uveitis and genetic eye disease
  • Work closely with the orthoptists, optometrists, paediatricians including paediatric rheumatologists and geneticists
  • Develop skills in teaching junior medical staff

Person specification

Essential

  • Medical Degree
  • Significant experience in Ophthalmology
  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent -MRCOphth/FRCOphth/FEBO
  • Completion of Basic Training
  • Completion of Higher Training (CCT/CESR)

  • Experience of Audit
  • Distinctions or Prizes during undergraduate training
  • Research & Publications
  • Research projects relevant to Medical Retina
