Job Description:
The Furnace Layout Engineer is responsible for the mechanical/piping design and layout of ethylene cracking furnaces. This includes developing furnace layouts, specifying furnace components, and preparing engineering drawings. The Furnace Layout Engineer will work closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure that the furnace design meets all requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop furnace layouts that meet technical and safety requirements.
- Prepare engineering drawings for furnace components and assemblies.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure furnace design integration with overall plant design.
- Participate in engineering reviews, client and vendor meetings.
- Site inspections.
- Produce technical drawings using approved software and tools.
- Maintain engineering documentation.
- Adhere to defined CAD implementation procedures.
- Read and understand contract requirements and project scope of work.
- Specify furnace components, such as refractory, burners, coils, fans, supports.
- Perform calculations for refractory design, pressure containment, support design, etc.
- Develop understanding of other discipline roles and responsibilities.
- Develop knowledge of relevant codes and standards applicable to project and equipment requirements.
- Produce mechanical designs & calculations using approved software and tools.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in engineering design or industrial settings, preferably on major projects in the petrochemical and related industries.
- Experience in industrial layout of equipment and piping or similar.
- HNC or Degree in a relevant engineering subject.
- Experience in using 2D CAD software – Autocad and/or Microstation.
- Good spatial awareness with a practical problem-solving mindset.
- Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Experience / Qualifications:
- Experience in furnace and fired heater components.
- Membership of appropriate engineering institution.
- Experienced in production of 3D models.
- Site Experience.
