Senior Transport Planner Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Transport Planner to join our Development Team in Newcastle, specialising in Transport / Civil Engineering for Development Planning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide specialist advice to private sector and local authority clients on residential and mixed-use development led and masterplanning projects, including access, transportation, and infrastructure issues.
  • Support development proposals through the planning process, working closely with our planning, infrastructure design, structures, and transport and environmental teams.
  • Deliver concept studies / strategies, Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Parking Studies, Access Studies, Movement and Access Studies, and lead to planning applications, post-permission, and discharge of planning condition works.
  • Keep up-to-date with relevant standards and policies, and raise WSP profile by networking and attending conferences.
  • Be involved in high-profile client engagement, stakeholder management, design team liaison, and project management.
  • Be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards, and legal requirements.
Requirements:
  • A numerate first degree in Transport, Mathematics, Geography, Civil Engineering, Planning, or a related subject.
  • An MSc in Transport Planning/Engineering is desirable.
  • Knowledge of appropriate transport planning guidance and best practice.
  • Significant experience of delivering a wide range of transport planning projects across specialist areas, including development planning, scheme delivery, sustainable transport, and active travel.
  • A working knowledge of junction modelling software, such as Junctions 9 (PICADY & ARCADY) and Linsig.
  • Significant experience and capability in financially and programme managing projects using business tools.
  • A robust knowledge of the financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering projects.
