Consultant in Microbiology Specialist

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient-centered care, maintaining a proactive and consultative link between clinicians, patients, and the laboratory service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert diagnostic opinion and advice on appropriate and timely investigations for microbial diseases.
- Direct the laboratory service, working closely with senior biomedical staff to ensure regular review of the investigative repertoire and methodology employed.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical governance policies and procedures.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity.
- Engage in continuing medical education and professional development to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in medical microbiology.
Requirements:
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
- FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
- Experience in microbiology, including laboratory diagnosis of infections and their treatment.
- Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion.
- Experience in supervising undergraduates, doctors in training, and other colleagues.
- Demonstrable experience and participation in research.
- Published papers and original work in peer-reviewed journals.
