Job Overview

The Sepsis Specialist role is a key position within Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, providing clinical leadership, education, and training to improve patient outcomes for those with sepsis. This role involves raising awareness of sepsis, ensuring early recognition, assessment, and interventions through clinical education and direct clinical support.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will be instrumental in delivering trust-wide multi-disciplinary teaching and supporting the corporate delivery of sepsis key performance indicators. They will drive qualitative, innovative, productive, safe, evidence-based nursing care that promotes best practice and outcomes for patients, acting as a clinical expert and resource for the multi-disciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting ward staff with the appropriate knowledge and information to manage patients with sepsis
  • Participating in the development and improvement of sepsis care to maximise quality of patient care in collaboration with healthcare professionals and external agencies
  • Assisting in developing trust policy to ensure practice meets internal and external healthcare standards
  • Working collaboratively with oncology specialist nurses to support improvements in neutropenic sepsis management
  • Working collaboratively with critical care from a clinical and education perspective as part of the whole deteriorating patient agenda

Education/Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Registered practitioner
  • Degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • Teaching qualification
  • Ongoing personal/professional development

  • ILS/APLS qualified
  • Leadership qualification/course

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years in an acute setting
  • Awareness of audit within the healthcare setting
  • Exposure to managing change
  • Evidence of teaching experience
