Job Summary

The Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide high-quality specialist nursing care to patients with urological conditions. This role requires a strong background in urological nursing, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to develop the service and continually improve patient care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist nursing care to patients with urological conditions, including support and advice to patients and their families.
  • Undertake nurse-led clinics in line with identified protocols and clinical guidance, including trial without catheter, catheter change, bladder instillation service, lower urinary tract symptoms, lithotripsy, erectile dysfunction, and continence.
  • Liaise with the medical team to report any significant clinical changes and facilitate recommendations following medical discussion.
  • Demonstrate specialist skills and knowledge through expert nursing practice.
  • Promote and maintain effective communication.
  • Liaise with the Clinical Lead and Team Leader on issues of service management and development for Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
  • Review and develop written policies, protocols, and guidance relevant to this patient group, in conjunction with the Multidisciplinary team.
  • Be responsible for own professional development and maintenance of standards, supported by the Lead nurse and Team leader.
  • Accept appropriate referrals from MDT colleagues.
  • Work collaboratively with MDT colleagues across Primary and Secondary care to provide a seamless service delivery to the patient, family, and/or carer as appropriate.
  • Identify and promote specific symptom management strategies and escalation pathways.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of education programs and resources for the patient, family, and/or carer in relation to urological diseases.
  • Provide mentorship for nursing colleagues as appropriate and create exchange of learning opportunities within the MDT.
  • Use outcomes of audit to improve service provision.
Person Specification
  • Able to fulfill Occupational Health requirements for the post.
  • Willing to undergo training as necessary.
  • Knowledge of Urological nursing (BAUN).
  • Significant post-registration experience at Band 5 or equivalent and experience within urology/relevant specialty.
  • Audit and standard setting.
  • Service development and/or change management.
  • Experience of managing self and a team.
  • Registered Nurse (Level 1), Recognised teaching/assessing qualification.
  • Post-qualification in specialty.
  • Extended/Supplementary prescribing.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own and others' workload.
  • Capable of lateral thinking.
  • IT Skills.
