We are proud to offer a supportive and friendly culture at York Vets for Pets. Our team is dedicated to the well-being of our staff and clients alike, providing a fantastic service to our patients.
About us:
Our practice is led by experienced Vet Helen, who ensures that every member of our team feels valued and supported. We have a diverse team of vets with varying levels of experience, from 5 to 20 years graduated, which allows for plenty of case discussion and collaboration. Our nursing team consists of 6 RVNs and an SVN, who work closely with our vets to ensure seamless day-to-day operations.
We place great emphasis on team well-being, evident in our flexible diary arrangements allowing you time to thoroughly work-up cases and take breaks as needed. Our beautiful garden area provides a peaceful space for relaxation, while our indoor colleague area is perfect for quieter days. We have a wellbeing board for recognition and social events, as well as two mental health first-aiders in the team.
We hold regular meetings to encourage input and feedback, and our WhatsApp chat groups facilitate additional case discussion and support. As an RCVS accredited practice, we strive for excellence in client care and have achieved 'Outstanding' status in both 'client service' and 'team and professional responsibility'. Our commitment to client loyalty means we have a high percentage of insured pets, allowing us to keep cases in-house when possible.
We welcome peripatetic specialists, ultra-sonographers, and cardiologists, ensuring continuity of care for our patients. In addition to our local community events, such as school visits and brownies, we aim to be a trusted and integral part of the community.
Our colleagues appreciate the considerate, caring, and fair management ethos led by Helen, as well as the supportive team environment. They highlight the importance of individual strengths, talents, and personalities contributing to a 'family-like' atmosphere within the team.
The role:
This is a part-time position covering 1-2 full days, with flexibility to discuss alternative working rotas. You will ideally have some experience in practice and feel confident with basic consults and surgeries. For more experienced vets, we offer a varied caseload and support for continuing professional development (CPD). This may include pursuing a certificate, which would complement our current imaging and dermatology certificates held by our team members.
Sick pet consults are 30 minutes, with allocated admin time to focus on case work-ups and provide excellent client service. There are opportunities for solo charge on weekends, with remote backup available if needed.
In addition to a competitive salary starting from £40K, we offer:
- 5.6 weeks holiday (increasing to 6.6 weeks after 2 years service)
- Birthday off
- Access to AXA healthcare Cycle to work
- Relocation package (where applicable)
- Visa sponsorship
- Paid memberships (BVA, RCVS, and VDS)
- Generous CPD allowance
- Exclusive discounts through Our reward Hub
Our location:
York, a city offering a mix of history, outdoor activities, and urban life, is easily accessible by transport links. With four international airports nearby, York is an ideal base for those seeking a balanced lifestyle.
