Job Summary

The Senior Emergency Practitioner will be a registered healthcare professional from a nursing, paramedic, or physiotherapy background, with experience and skills in minor injuries and illnesses. They may be a prescriber or have the capability to use our extensive patient group directives.

Main Responsibilities

The Senior Emergency Practitioner will be responsible to the Consultant Practitioner or their nominated deputy and assist with service delivery within the Emergency Department and Medical division. The role incorporates a 24-hour clinical care rota, promoting safety and quality care to those who present to the Emergency Department.

The post holder will be a role model and support direct clinical care by working as an autonomous practitioner to patients who present with minor injuries and minor illnesses. They will assess, investigate, treat, and either refer or discharge patients who present with minor injuries and illnesses across the age spans (adults and paediatrics).

Key Skills and Qualifications
  • Able to interpret a number of investigations, including plain film X-Rays and blood results.
  • Able to prescribe medications in accordance with the BNF and local guidelines.
  • Ability to use clinical reasoning skills and techniques to assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate patient care.
  • Experience of working in an Acute and Emergency clinical environment.
  • Substantial years of experience in Minor Injury/Illness as a Band 6.
