Are you looking to take your underwriting career to the next level? We're seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter to join our team in the UK.

About the Role

This exciting opportunity is based within our renewals department, where you'll be working with a wide variety of Professional and Management risks, including Cyber and Technology risks. As a Senior Underwriter, you'll be responsible for managing a portfolio of risks, underwriting large and complex renewal cases, and collaborating with our Claims team to ensure the best outcomes for policyholders and Markel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of risks and underwrite large and complex renewal cases within defined underwriting authority
  • Collaborate with the Markel Claims team on claims on complex cases to ensure the best outcomes for policyholders and Markel
  • Demonstrate and promote a thorough knowledge of company guidelines and authority levels to achieve profitability and underwriting objectives
  • Provide excellent service to our brokers, prioritizing renewals and mid-term adjustments to ensure deadlines are met and maximize business development opportunities
  • Attend underwriting and broker meetings as required throughout the year and provide insight into developments, trends, and feedback on market conditions
Requirements
  • Experience of financial lines underwriting, including Professional Liability, Cyber, and/or Management Risks
  • Ability to review wordings, lead in the complexities of drafting clauses/endorsements, and tailored wordings
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Track record in building and developing broker relationships
  • Ability to regularly analyze competitors' products, capabilities, and appetite and share within the team
  • Proven ability to renew business while maintaining underwriting discipline
  • ACII and/or similar qualification preferred
