Clinical Psychologist in Adult Rehabilitation Hospital

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust Full time
Job Summary

The post-holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team across three rehabilitation wards, offering specialist psychological assessment and intervention, advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to the wider team, and contributing to discharge planning. The Clinical Psychologist will provide both direct input to service users, as well as working with staff and teams to offer consultation and training around mental health presentations they may commonly find present in their daily work with service users. The post-holder will be expected to work autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedure and to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development.

Main Duties of the Job

The caseload is comprised of adults who have been referred for rehabilitation and may present with multiple complex health needs. The post-holder will be working alongside Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Nurses and other medical staff, carrying out therapeutic interventions for patients presenting with psychological barriers to progress in rehabilitation, including low mood, anxiety and difficulties with adjustment to diagnosis. There will be additional opportunities for consultation to the team, service development and teaching, particularly to non-psychology colleagues. The post-holder will attend multi-disciplinary meetings to discuss and feedback patient care, contribute to family meetings and discharge planning. The post-holder will be provided with the opportunity to develop clinical and leadership skills through the support of senior colleagues, and will be part of a wider team of psychologists working in rehabilitation within Camden, who meet regularly for peer support and with an emphasis on continuing professional development.

About Us

The Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust is passionate about delivering first-class patient-centred, safe and effective care, whether it is in a hospital setting, in a community clinic or in the patient's own home. Providing top quality care depends on our ability to employ the best people. With every new employee, we're hoping to find our future leaders and we'll support our staff by providing opportunities to develop your career. With a diverse culture and equally diverse range of opportunities across community services, whatever stage of your career you're at, there's always a place for you at CNWL. The post-holder will receive regular clinical professional supervision from a senior clinical psychologist, as well as regular peer support with other psychologists within Camden. They may be expected to provide professional and clinical supervision of trainee psychologists and assistant psychologists. The post-holder will also provide advice, consultation, training and supervision, where appropriate, to other health and social care staff working with the client group. The post-holder will facilitate and assist in the management of service development and provision and may be involved in including complex audit and service evaluation, with colleagues within the service to help develop and evaluate service provision.

Person Specification

The post-holder will be expected to maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues of relevance to the service, client group and mental health and to maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in psychology within the service area, by exercising the skills of a reflexive and reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of clinical psychology and related disciplines.
