Apprentice Machinist

The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating a variety of machines to perform assigned tasks, producing or repairing precision parts using both manual and automated equipment (CNC) and accurate measuring instruments. This includes reading and reviewing paperwork, drawings and instructions to understand specifications of output. The candidate will also be responsible for planning the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job, taking accurate measurements using micrometres, Vernier callipers, height gauges etc., and setting up, operating and maintaining machine tools. Additionally, the candidate will monitor machine while working to adjust the speeds and feeds and make set up changes if necessary, perform routine machine coolant checks, maintenance and tooling checks, and operate overhead Crane.
Requirements:
- Minimum GCSE level or equivalent
- Ability to communicate fluently in written and spoken English
- Qualification in an engineering subject would be desirable
- Illustrate previous knowledge and experience in Machine Shop/ Engineering Facility
- Good awareness and understanding of PPE
- Previous experience with CNC or manual Machine Tools desirable, but not essential
- Able to use their own initiative
- Good communication ability to communicate with staff on business, and other issues that affect the business
- Monday to Friday (Double day 06:30-14:30 / 14:30-22:30)
- Occasional loud noises from machinery and other production department activity
- Must be willing to work shifts
