Senior Design and Delivery Manager Opportunity

Abatec Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled Senior Design and Delivery Manager to join their team in a national contractor. As a key member of the senior management team, you will be responsible for the design function on a range of projects across the whole lifecycle, from tenders to delivery programmes.

This is a unique opportunity to work with a client who is recruiting a Design Manager to manage and coordinate the design on a range of projects with varying complexity and value. We are looking for an experienced Design Manager who has supported innovative and cost-effective design solutions and applied value engineering principles.

As a Senior Design and Delivery Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Sourcing and managing design partners to develop innovative design solutions to clients' briefs, with input from the project team and subcontractors.
  • Developing relationships with appointed design partners, reviewing their competences, ensuring design deliverable dates are achieved, challenging buildability, and auditing their performance.
  • Chairing and minuting design team meetings and design workshops to arrive at solutions that are cost-effective and meet the requirements of the procurement and construction activities.
  • Managing design relationships for the whole project team, including the client, subcontractors, and professional team, resolving any queries.
  • Applying value engineering throughout the design phase, keeping up to date with the latest construction techniques and legislation.
  • Ensuring scope sheets for each package align with duties schedules, utilising these to feed design and procurement programmes, and direct design teams.
  • Producing, monitoring, and driving production through the appropriate use of KPIs for the design process.
  • Reviewing design on an ongoing basis, identifying potential interface problems and practicalities in construction, and resolving with the design team and specialist subcontractors.
  • Attending subcontractor selection interviews, including preparation beforehand.
  • Reviewing subcontract enquiries to subcontractor-designed packages.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree qualification in a relevant construction subject.
  • Knowledge and experience of various design standards.

Salary and Benefits

  • £50,000 - £60,000 per annum.
