Commercial Underwriter

We're seeking an experienced Commercial Underwriter to join our team at Atom Bank, a leading fintech bank that's redefining the banking experience. As a key member of our Underwriting team, you'll play a crucial role in assessing residential mortgage and business banking secured loan applications, ensuring we're approving lending that meets our policy guidelines and risk appetite.

• Underwriting and Risk Assessment: Review and underwrite new business lending applications, further advances, account reviews, and loan modifications in line with our lending criteria, procedures, and controls.
• Communication and Stakeholder Management: Use your excellent relationship-building skills to communicate with various stakeholders, both internal and external, across multiple channels.
• Decision-Making and Influence: Deliver balanced lending decisions in line with your mandated authority and influence change by bringing your ideas to enhance our policy and processes.
• Operational Excellence: Ensure all correspondence is in line with lending policy, provide enough evidence to satisfy KYC, KYB, and AML requirements, and meet personal and team KPIs (including decision quality, customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement).

• Commercial Lending Experience: Strong experience in commercial lending as an underwriter or relationship manager.
• Lending Mandate: Held a commercial lending mandate with experience in seeking delegated authority to approve applications when outside lending policy.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Full understanding of the principles of Responsible Lending, Conduct Risk, TCF, and FCA thematic reviews.
• Compliance and Risk: Detailed understanding of KYC, KYB, AML, and compliance-related rules and regulations, mortgage fraud, and measures/systems in place to avoid it.
• Intermediated Lending Market: Good understanding of the intermediated lending market.
• Credit Bureau Data: Knowledge of credit bureau data and its interpretation.
• Lending Law and Practice: Familiar with, and able to apply, relevant lending law and practice.
• Communication and Stakeholder Management: Strong verbal and written communication skills and stakeholder management skills.

• Competitive Salary: Salary range £39,750 - £44,732.
