As a key member of our Engineering function in the Northern Region, you will play a crucial role in managing both direct and sub-contracted design teams involved in our growing portfolio of work.

This includes overseeing the design delivery and technical design solutions for our programme of work, where you will work with highly experienced teams and play a key role in projects ranging from £1m to £30m.

You will manage design for projects that capture some of our clients' most critical operational assets, ensuring compliance with project requirements, standards, and specifications.

The role supports the project delivery teams by managing concept development and detailed design solutions based on client and site-specific requirements.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Effectively manage the design teams in line with the design delivery programme.
  2. Adhere to CDM regulations as Design Manager and ensure appropriate CDM appointments are in place.
  3. Promote safety, environmental best practices, and sustainability through design.
  4. Produce design plans and briefs.
  5. Manage the agreed contract with external design consultants.
  6. Support Estimators and the Project Manager to produce and manage the design and budget schedule.
  7. Implement change control processes to track and manage the development of the Engineering element of a project.
  8. Lead internal and external design reviews.
  9. Support supply chain selection for specialists' input on the design.
  10. Collaborate with other technical, operational, maintenance, and strategic stakeholders, and design coordinators.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum 10 years of design and management experience.
  2. Experience in the design management of water and wastewater infrastructure, including pipelines, hydraulics, and MEICA.
  3. Working knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and common data environments.
  4. People management, time management, project design management.
