Job Summary

This is a 12-month fixed-term or secondment opportunity working within the new state-of-the-art Theatres and Day Surgery department at Darlington Memorial Hospital.

Main Duties

The post holder will be required to manage and supervise a team of 3 staff with the aim of providing an efficient, confidential reception and admin support service to the Theatre and Day Surgery staff.

The team will be responsible for printing theatre lists, amending theatre slots and patient details, while liaising with wards, clinical staff, and the waiting list team to book patients.

The post holder will also be required to provide cover for the reception between the hours of 6:30 am and 17:00 on a shared rota basis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise the theatre admin and day surgery reception staff to ensure reception cover and support is provided between the hours of 6:30 and 17:00.
  • Provide a meet and greet service to patients and visitors who are arriving for surgery, answer calls from both internal and external customers.
  • Proactively prepare and order theatre lists and consent information ready for clinical interactions.
  • Book all patients onto our electronic patient records system and add ad hoc and emergency patients to theatre lists.
  • Supervisory tasks include staff rostering, management of sickness and holiday absence, conduct appraisals and regular 1:1's with a view to developing the staff and team.
  • Allocate work and training and support to staff.
  • Provide an admin support service to the Theatre Managers.
