Packaging Technologist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Packaging Technologist to join our team at Gregory Walker Associates. The successful candidate will be responsible for understanding the packaging application and specification of all packaging used on site.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Identify opportunities to reduce packaging specification and align it with requirements to minimize environmental impact and costs.
2. Develop and maintain effective relationships with key suppliers, staying up-to-date with new developments in materials technology.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver business goals.
4. Implement and maintain processes to ensure packaging development is controlled and aligned to customer and internal standards.
5. Communicate new packaging initiatives to site teams and group functions.
6. Support the testing of new packaging concepts and ensure they are viable from an operational, technical, and commercial perspective.
7. Organize and prepare packaging samples and presentations for customer meetings.
8. Maintain a library of packaging specifications for the site.

Requirements:

1. Diploma in Packaging Technology and/or up to 2 years of experience as a Packaging Technologist.
2. Experience in project management, creating and managing critical paths.
3. Organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
4. Knowledge of packaging standards and existing and new legislation.
5. Previous experience in packaging fresh and frozen protein is desirable but not essential.
6. Knowledge of plastic polymer science.
7. Experience with trays and paper-based packaging (corrugate, solid board) is desirable.
8. Knowledge of various print technologies and processes.
9. Flexibility to travel across multiple sites and suppliers to meet business requirements.
10. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
11. Computer literate.
12. Full valid driving license and flexibility to travel.
13. Able to work in a fast-paced environment with change and high expectations.
