Assistant Quantity Surveyor

We are seeking a highly skilled Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial Operations team at National Highways.

As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the commercial and contract management of schemes valued between £1m and £30m. Your expertise will be essential in developing new skills and capabilities, whether you are working towards gaining Chartered Surveyor status or seeking to enhance your experience to date.

The role will be primarily based in our Maidstone office, with a requirement to attend other NH Offices/Site when required. We offer a flexible hybrid working approach, allowing you to balance office and agile home working.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supply Chain management, including sending enquiry documentation, quotation assessment, work order award, and instructions to the supply chain as required.
  • Assisting in the management of site-level change control, including early warning and compensation event management and assessment, both to the Client and to the supply chain as necessary.
  • Monitoring actual costs against targets.
  • Managing your own portfolio of works under supervision from a QS/SQS.
  • Liaising with other departments to ensure that the Schemes Tracker is up-to-date, data is accurate, and reconciled against other sources.
  • Maintaining collaborative working relationships with supply chain contractors.

Requirements:

  • A degree/HND in Quantity Surveying or other relevant technical qualification, or completion of a formally recognized graduate program, apprenticeship, or similar.
  • Basic experience of contract administration, preferably using NEC forms of contract.
  • Intermediate-level MS Excel skills, including basic formulas, pivot tables, and formatting.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective engagement with various stakeholders.
  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of commercial management.
