Job Title: Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Towed Array Work Cell

Thales Underwater Systems is seeking an experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Templecombe, UK. As a key member of our Towed Array work cell, you will contribute to the definition, implementation, and maintenance of the Industrial Strategy for existing products and new products through day-to-day technical support to the onsite industrial footprint.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the Manufacturing engineering phase and the successful introduction into production of new and legacy products within a defined production centre/area.
  • Work with the Engineering teams through the Design, Development and Qualification phase to review Product Defining Data (PDD) and ensure it is suitable for manufacture.
  • Prepare all data for and run Production Readiness Reviews (PRRs) on behalf of industry.
  • Identify opportunities for manufacturing equipment capital purchases with financial assessment (Cost-Benefit Analysis & ROI's) completed in order to drive business competitiveness.
  • Assess the Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) of products by reviewing the product maturity with project teams to identify and minimise risks manufacturing risks.
  • Be accountable for the definition, setup, preparation and optimisation of manufacturing processes and tooling for a defined area, or product line, i.e. defining and agreeing layout and infrastructure for a product line, or manufacturing area.
  • Contribute to compliance of the production process with all Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) applicable regulations.
  • Define and optimise manufacturing documentation, tools, workflows for manufacturing and inspection based on the information supplied by upstream R&D engineering departments and guarantees the production data (ERP).
  • Contribute to the technological innovation to reduce costs and workflows, whilst guaranteeing the feasibility and reproducibility of the process.
  • Attend Material Review Boards (MRBs) and Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) on behalf of manufacturing. Actively managing failures and changes.
  • Elaborate and implement tests & control plans for manufacturing equipment. As such, define and develop the test procedures and associated means (programs, benches, and interfaces).
  • Contribute to establishing and guaranteeing targeted cost at an early stage of development.
  • Contribute to the capitalisation of the experiences fed back from the production line to ensure lessons learnt are captured in new product introduction.
  • Contribute to the definition and the application of applicable baselines, as well as support, to the end users of the manufacturing process.
  • Develop the skills within the function and provide the appropriate trainings.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, ideally from an Electro-Mechanical assembly/fabrication background (other manufacturing environments will also be considered).
  • Awareness and use of continuous improvement techniques and implementation of lean manufacturing.
  • Experience of manufacturing systems.
  • Understanding/awareness of connected industrial concepts.
  • Industrial experience of implementing new technologies (including change management and impact analysis).
  • Strong Communication skills & experience training team members.
