**Research Opportunity in Optical Engineering**

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Assistant/Associate to join our team in the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research and developing novel high-precision optical measurements in photonic devices, with a focus on spatial light modulators and subpixel-accuracy hologram setting for precise beam steering.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research and developing novel high-precision optical measurements
  • Designing and implementing optical systems and performing benchmarking and optimisation
  • Compiling and analysing quantitative and qualitative data, preparing reports and presenting results
  • Writing journal articles to reveal research findings
  • Managing own research and administrative activities
  • Working in a team and providing support to other team members

**Requirements**

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A PhD in a relevant specialist subject of physics, optics, and/or optical engineering
  • Research experience in high-accuracy optical measurement, including subpixel-accuracy concept, optical design, system implementation and computation evaluation and benchmarking
  • Development experience in point spread function modelling, machine learning and/or optical simulation

**Appointment Details**

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

**Salary and Benefits**

The salary range for this role is £31,396 - £44,263 per annum, depending on experience.
