About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Second Chef to join our team at Barchester Healthcare. As a Second Chef, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality culinary experiences to our residents, while working closely with the Head Chef to develop menus and manage kitchen operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Chef in menu planning and development, ensuring that all dishes are nutritious, flavorful, and meet the highest standards of quality.
  • Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Work with fresh produce to deliver high-quality and wholesome dishes, cooked to the highest standards.
  • Create a warm and welcoming environment within our home, ensuring that residents feel valued and cared for.
  • Engage with residents to create appetizing and nutritious menus that meet their individual needs and preferences.
  • Manage stock control, complete regular audits, and work within budget to ensure that kitchen operations are cost-effective and efficient.

Requirements:

  • A personable and warm approach, with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of residents.
  • Hold City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent qualification in culinary arts.
  • A good understanding of nutrition and the ability to create menus that meet the dietary needs of residents.
  • Experience of working with fresh seasonal food and the ability to create a warm and welcoming environment within our home.
  • Confidence engaging with residents to create appetizing and nutritious menus.
  • Good understanding of HACCP and food safety protocols.
