We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Alarm Engineer to join our team at Fortus Recruitment, a leading recruitment agency specializing in the repairs and maintenance industry. Our client, a Local Authority, is looking for a dedicated professional to provide day-to-day planned and reactive maintenance of contracts, respond to emergency callouts, and carry out remedial works as required.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day planned and reactive maintenance of contracts.
  • Respond to emergency callouts and carry out remedial works as required.
  • Carry out asset verification.
  • Install replacement/additional equipment.
  • Participate in the on-call rota.
  • Conduct site surveys as required.
  • Train apprentices.
  • Service, maintain, and install fire alarm systems (BS5839-1) and emergency lighting systems, including Nurse Call and Access Control, in accordance with the relevant British Standards.
  • Complete engineer service reports.
  • Report deficiencies or deviations in systems.
  • Report on and maintain emergency lighting systems and other associated equipment, such as fire extinguishers, AOVs, etc.
  • Conduct regular van stock checks and liaise with the Engineering Technical Supervisor and Procurement Department to keep replenished and appropriately stocked.
  • Maintain a health and safety mindset, identifying potential risks associated with the role and reporting any issues promptly to ensure the ongoing safety of self and others.
  • Achieve a first-time fix where possible.

Requirements:

  • Good understanding of British Standards BS 5839 and BS 5266.
  • FIA Level or equivalent qualification.
  • At least 1 year of industry experience.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • A flexible approach to work, with a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with opportunities to earn significantly more through weekends and participation in an out-of-hours call-out rota.
  • A full UK driving license.
  • Previous fire alarm experience and knowledge of analogue addressable and conventional fire alarm systems.
  • FIA training (or equivalent required) to BS5839-1 Fundamentals, with a good understanding of BS5839, particularly part one and part six.
  • A good level of IT literacy.
  • An understanding of Health and Safety Regulations within the workplace.
