Job Description

The successful candidate will lead the team responsible for managing the Imperial Tobacco Pension Fund, a £2.5bn asset and £2.25bn liability fund in the DB section, with an additional £97m AUM in the DC section.

This role involves providing strategic guidance to the Trustee Board on investment matters, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practices, and managing internal risk management functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • To oversee the Pension Fund Office (PFO) team in managing all aspects of UK pensions arrangements, including both DB and DC plans.
  • To ensure that the Fund adheres to regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • To advise the Trustee Board on investment strategies and act as Secretary to the Trustees Investment Committee, monitoring performance and managing cash flow and liquidity.
  • To support the Trustee Board and Chair in maintaining a collaborative relationship with the Company, considering the needs of both parties.
  • To manage scheme administration, including pensioner payroll and resolving Member queries.
  • To provide technical information to Members, drafting communication materials from the Scheme, Trustee or Company, and financial reporting.
  • To offer technical support to senior personnel, proposing solutions to address pensions issues.
  • To maintain a comprehensive understanding of UK pensions regulation and related matters.
  • To ensure the Pensions team has the necessary structure, capabilities, and systems to deliver results efficiently and effectively.
  • To oversee ancillary benefits (medical insurance and group income protection) and relationships with providers and brokers.
  • To be involved in business planning and control of current projects (Pensions Dashboards, GMP equalisation, de-risking).
  • Experience in supporting a Trustee Board or similar on scheme management, investments, and legislation is required.
  • Good management of Trustee and Company relationships, promoting collaboration between the parties.
  • Fully APMI or ACCA qualified.
  • Experience in leading pension de-risking exercises is preferred.
  • Fluent English skills, with the ability to present clear, well-structured papers and reports.
  • Experience in managing resources, both people and finances.
