About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Counsel to join our Securities Services Legal Team in Belfast. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing legal advice and support to our business partners across Europe, UK, Middle East and Africa.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise on Legal Risk: Provide expert advice on legal risk management to the Custody business, including negotiations with key clients, risk issues, and regulatory change implementation.
  • Review and Negotiate Documentation: Review and negotiate a wide range of custody legal documentation with internal and external customers, ensuring compliance with Securities Services negotiation guidelines.
  • Maintain Accurate Status Reports: Maintain accurate status reports on negotiation developments within the team and exercise best practice in documentation management, negotiation, and execution.
  • Understand Legal and Regulatory Requirements: Understand the various legal and regulatory requirements of the Custody business and provide legal support in respect of same.
  • Manage Day-to-Day Legal Activities: Manage day-to-day legal activities, serving as a subject matter expert in area of responsibility and provide advisory services to business partners.
  • Build Relationships: Build relationships with various internal stakeholders, including local legal counsels, product, risk, relationship managers, and implementation contacts.
Requirements
  • Experience: Experience working in a fast-paced corporate legal department, law firm, financial services, or related industry.
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws and practices relevant to the product areas and banking/financial services industry.
  • Skills: Exhibit confidence and agility in challenging times, and can effectively manage a busy workload comprising work from different financial product areas.
  • Education: High-quality academic record including a Bachelor's/University degree qualification in the relevant discipline of law or equivalent.
