Job Title: Clinical Immunologist

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Immunologist to join our team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist services for patients with primary and secondary immunodeficiencies, drug allergy, and chronic spontaneous urticaria.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sustain the current capacity of the service for clinical allergy and immunology work, with a view to expansion following further development of nursing clinics and review of patient throughput.
  • Ensure the smooth flow from diagnosis to treatment & follow up.
  • Support development of Allergy & Immunology Service.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary team & developing innovative ways of working to sustain increasing patient load.
  • Contribute to the Allergy & Immunology on call rota (Category B).
  • Ensure optimal delivery of diagnostic laboratory support in line with standards from clinical pathology accreditation and in line with the planned developments of the Yorkshire diagnostic laboratory network.

Person Specification:

  • MB BS or equivalent qualification.
  • MRCP or equivalent qualification.
  • Certificate of completion of Specialist training in Immunology FRCPath or equivalent.
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Is up to date and fit to practise safely.

Desirable:

  • Relevant higher degree eg MD/PhD relevant to the sub-specialty.

Training, Research, Teaching & Audit:

  • The appointee must hold the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom, or equivalent and should have completed a recognised training programme in clinical and laboratory immunology as per curriculum outlined by JRCPTB or equivalent body.
  • Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
  • Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
  • Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.

Management & Interpersonal Skills:

  • Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
  • Well organised and skilled in good time management.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.

Experience:

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in managing patients with primary and secondary immunodeficiencies, drug allergy and chronic spontaneous urticaria.
  • Specifically they must demonstrate higher training in Immunology.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of expertise in diagnostic laboratory immunology.
  • Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

Further Requirements:

  • Medically fit to fulfil ALL aspects of the post, and to be able to respond quickly to emergencies, as necessary. Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice).
  • Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.

  • CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) - CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process
