Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Power Electronics Test Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of advanced specialist systems for the defence industry.

As a Power Electronics Test Engineer, you will be responsible for lab-based testing and validation of power electronics systems, electrical testing and fault finding, system integration and support, lab maintenance and safety, and documentation and reporting.

This role is perfect for an individual who enjoys hands-on work with electronic systems, ensuring that power electronics systems are tested thoroughly for functionality, reliability, and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead hands-on testing of power electronics and electrical systems in a lab environment, ensuring systems perform according to specifications and safety standards.
  • Develop and execute test plans, including functional and performance testing for power converters, motor drives, and other related systems.
  • Use lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, power analyzers, and signal generators to conduct precise measurements and validate system performance.
  • Perform electrical testing on both low-voltage and high-voltage systems, identifying issues and ensuring that systems are safe and functional under various operating conditions.
  • Troubleshoot system faults, diagnose complex technical problems, and implement effective solutions to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Support the integration of power electronics into larger systems, testing the compatibility and performance of systems when combined with other components.
  • Collaborate with engineers to validate designs through testing and provide input on potential product improvements based on test outcomes.
  • Set up and maintain test rigs, ensuring the accuracy and safety of all testing operations.
Requirements
  • HND, Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electronics Engineering, or a related field with a focus on electrical testing and electronics systems.
  • Proven experience in power electronics testing, fault finding, and lab-based testing of power converters, motor drives, or other complex electronic systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing on both low-voltage and high-voltage systems, including diagnostics and fault resolution.
  • Strong knowledge of power electronics, electrical systems, and converter topologies.
  • Expertise in electrical testing, including the ability to interpret test data, troubleshoot issues, and suggest corrective actions.
