Senior Public Rights of Way Officer (Access and Trails)

Location: Great Moor House, Exeter, EX2 7NL

This is an exciting opportunity to lead our southern area warden team, responsible for managing and maintaining some of the UK's most popular and well-regarded recreational trails, routes, and paths, including parts of the South West Coast Path and King Charles III England Coast Path National Trails.

As a Senior Public Rights of Way Officer, you will play a key role in the management, maintenance, and improvement of the public rights of way, off-road multi-use trails, unclassified county roads, and wider countryside access network. This includes enhancing and promoting the County's network of more than 5000 km of paths, helping to encourage and support health and wellbeing, environmental sustainability, and economic vitality.

We are looking for a candidate with a relevant degree level and/or substantive specialist training and experience in public rights of way and access management. You will have excellent prioritisation, organisation and communication skills, and proven ability to innovate and problem solve.

Key areas of focus include leading on the implementation of routine and reactive inspections, co-ordinating management and maintenance regimes, delivering improvement projects, and providing expert advice and support to internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the southern area warden team in managing and maintaining public rights of way, off-road multi-use trails, and unclassified county roads.
  • Co-ordinate management and maintenance regimes to ensure the County's network of public rights of way is well-maintained and accessible.
  • Deliver improvement projects to enhance and promote the County's network of public rights of way.
  • Provide expert advice and support to internal and external stakeholders on public rights of way and access management.

Requirements:

  • Relevant degree level and/or substantive specialist training and experience in public rights of way and access management.
  • Excellent prioritisation, organisation and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to innovate and problem solve.
