About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team at a major steel manufacturing site in Stocksbridge. The successful candidate will be responsible for determining and allocating engineering resources and materials needed to satisfy operational and engineering requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Determine and allocate engineering resources and materials needed to satisfy operational and engineering requirements.
  2. Devise and develop planned maintenance and inspection schedules to meet statutory, safety, quality, and engineering requirements.
  3. Provide technical and engineering expertise to Production Management and Department Engineers.
  4. Ensure plant, departmental personnel, and contractors operate within and comply with relevant internal policies and statutory Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation.
  5. Identify and assist in the preparation of capital and revenue schemes to enhance engineering and production performance.
  6. Develop, prepare, and submit Major Maintenance proposals and major stop period schedules to meet the programme of Works within agreed costs and timescales.
  7. Organise and manage the training and development of the multi-discipline engineering team and production personnel to provide a safety-conscious and technically competent workforce.
  8. Lead and assist in project implementation of capital, revenue, and major maintenance schemes.
  9. Negotiate contracts, organise and control specialist contractors providing maintenance and services, refurbishment, and modifications.
  10. Monitor KPIs for the area of responsibility, identify any deviation from target, and implement corrective action.

Requirements:

  1. Engineering qualification (HNC or higher) and at least 5 years experience in a supervisory or technical role.
  2. Plant engineering experience, ideally with an understanding of VIM, VAR, ESR Furnaces, Heat Treatment Furnaces, and associated auxiliary equipment.
  3. Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles and reliability-based maintenance.
  4. Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills with a collaborative approach to finding practical solutions.
