Job Title: Assistant Operations Manager

OBM People is seeking an experienced Assistant Operations Manager to join our team at Teesworks, Middlesborough. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of operational services and improving performance and financial targets.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in operations management, with experience in leading teams and implementing safe working practices. You will be responsible for coordinating arrival and departure notifications for SBQ vessels, providing operations management support to the Operations Manager, and reviewing and installing metrics of measurement to improve standards of delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the efficient and effective operation of the South Bank Quay (SBQ) Operations Control Centre (OCC) to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Provide depth of operations management support to the Operations Manager.
  • Coordinate all arrival and departure notifications for SBQ vessels with the Harbour Master.
  • Implement safe working practices in line with HSSEQ guidelines and legislation.
  • Improve processes and practices in support of organisational goals.
  • Support the Operations Manager to lead and manage individual and team performance and development.
  • Integrate ILMS operating system and use Power BI to report KPIs and build monthly reports.
  • Coordinate and monitor the effectiveness of operations to sustainably meet demand within safe operating limits.
  • Regularly stock take and control inventory levels of consumables.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and introduce new products and services.
  • Report significant breaches of policy and/or regulation to the Operations Manager or appropriate person.
  • Ensure that Supervisors are fully trained to fulfil their operational activities and responsibilities.
  • Support the Operations Manager/General Manager with the management of Teesworks P&L.

Requirements:

  • Degree or experience relevant to the role.
  • UK Driving Licence.
  • IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Customer focused and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships, both internal and external.
  • Accustomed to working effectively in a fast-paced environment, flexible and can adapt to changing workloads and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and in writing.
  • Ability to work stand-alone, demonstrating initiative and ownership, while a positive contributor to the wider team.
  • Computer literate with well-developed IT skills across the Microsoft suite and a practical understanding of data entry and reporting applications.
  • Good understanding of H&S Legislation.
