Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Cost Controller to join our busy and expanding Defence North team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for implementing, administering, and maintaining cost control systems and procedures to track project budgets, commitments, expenditures, and forecasts.

You will work alongside project delivery teams as part of a wider cost control team or independently with reach-back support to experienced cost professionals. Your responsibilities will include tailoring cost control approaches to meet client needs, promoting the benefits and requirements of cost control within the project and programme team, and developing project cost breakdown structures (CBS) and aligning time phasing of budgets against the work breakdown structure (WBS).

You will also develop and maintain relationships with interfacing disciplines, including finance, commercial, and project managers, to ensure alignment of project information. Additionally, you will lead the production of accruals to ensure accurate reflection of actual costs in a timely manner in the cost data.

Key Deliverables:

  • Develop and implement cost control systems and procedures to track project budgets, commitments, expenditures, and forecasts.
  • Tailor cost control approaches to meet client needs and promote the benefits and requirements of cost control within the project and programme team.
  • Develop project CBS and align time phasing of budgets against the WBS.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with interfacing disciplines to ensure alignment of project information.
  • Lead the production of accruals to ensure accurate reflection of actual costs in a timely manner in the cost data.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have demonstrable experience in cost control, familiarity with different cost performance reporting and forecasting techniques, and experience leading cost control assurance activities as part of project performance cadence.

You will also need a detailed understanding of earned value management (EVM), progress reporting, forecasting, and performance reporting and analysis, as well as practical experience of using MS Excel and other MS applications.

Familiarity with at least one cost control tool is desirable, as is an understanding of how other aspects of project controls (scheduling, risk management, reporting, change control) interact with cost control.
