Job Title: Principal Engineer - Metrology

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer - Metrology to join our team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our Calibration department, you will be responsible for leading the dimensional calibration team and ensuring the accuracy and precision of our measurement equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the leadership of the ICS Dimensional team, including people management, resource management, workflow management, and workload signoff.
  • Perform high-end calibrations and repairs on a wide variety of dimensional test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE), including maintaining and increasing capability and capacity through investment projects.
  • Deliver and measure the effectiveness of specific on-the-job training and experiential learning to ICS Dimensional team members and apprentices/graduates.
  • Design, review, and approve calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets.
  • Participate in a range of quality audits, including UKAS/ISO 17025, and achieve UKAS signatory status.
  • Drive the increase in the issue of UKAS/ISO 17025 accredited parameters and certification.
Requirements:
  • Extensive experience working in a precision dimensional calibration/metrology laboratory environment.
  • Understanding of quality systems and standards (ISO 17025/ISO 9001).
  • Relevant academic qualification (STEM degree, HNC/HND) or equivalent.
Desirable:
  • Existing UKAS signatory status for dimensional calibration.
  • Knowledge in the creation of measurement uncertainty budgets to ISO 17025 level.
  • Demonstrable use of automation software (PC Dimis, Fluke Metcal, Met/Track, Met/Teams, Labview).
  • Experience in mechanical, electrical, temperature, and other engineering calibrations.
