The Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Forensic Science is seeking a highly skilled Firearms Examiner Specialist to join our team at the Eastern Regional Laboratory in Norfolk, Virginia.

Salary:

$49,059 - $77,180 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.

Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Firearms Examiner Specialist who will perform Firearm and Toolmark examinations, comparisons, and evaluations. The selected candidate will be responsible for documenting evidence, interpreting results, preparing reports, and testifying in court as an expert witness. Occasional overnight travel may be required, and the employee will be expected to provide their own transportation as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be considered qualified, candidates must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college/university and demonstrate competency in Firearm and Toolmark comparison analysis. Experience using the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) and certification by The Association of Firearm and Tool Mark Examiners (AFTE) are highly desirable.
