About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional ecological modeler to apply the world-leading benthic ecosystem model (BORIS) to critical scientific questions and areas of societal impact.

The successful candidate will use the BORIS model to investigate how benthic ecosystems may respond to climate change, globally, and contribute to future IPCC reports and ocean assessments.

Additionally, the candidate will apply the BORIS model to quantify the impact of human activities such as deep-sea mining and carbon dioxide removal schemes involving biomass dumping.

The role also involves seeking funding opportunities to support the development of BORIS and associated research projects.

Key responsibilities include publishing research findings in high-impact scientific journals and communicating results to stakeholders, policymakers, and the general public through presentations, reports, and other outreach activities.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in numerical modeling, model testing and validation, and the ability to design numerical experiments to explore scientific questions.

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential, as is a proven track record of presenting research findings to a wide range of audiences.

The successful candidate will also have experience in developing and applying ecological models based on coupled differential equations and a strong understanding of benthic ecology and the pressures on benthic ecosystems.
