Job Overview: Residential Construction Controller

Type: Full-time

Location: Bristol-based, with occasional travel (Car Allowance provided)

Salary: Up to £65,000 + Benefits

We are looking for a skilled professional to oversee the financial management of high-rise residential refurbishment projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quantity surveying and excellent knowledge of construction contracts.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing project finances, monitoring costs, and ensuring compliance with company policies and contractual obligations.

This is a key role in our team, requiring a highly skilled individual who can lead and collaborate with other teams to achieve project objectives.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Managing project finances, including forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
  • Coordinating with site teams, estimating department, and project manager to ensure financial efficiency and control across projects.
  • Reviewing and analyzing contract documents, including identifying potential risks and opportunities.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely submission of claims and variations to clients.
  • Managing project variations, including negotiation with clients and subcontractors.
  • Preparing final accounts and negotiating settlements with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Leading and attending commercial meetings with clients and subcontractors to ensure all financial matters are addressed promptly and professionally.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally with a focus on high-rise residential refurbishment or similar projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, including JCT and NEC forms of contract.
  • Excellent understanding of the financial management of construction projects, with a strong track record of delivering projects within budget.
  • Experience working on PAS 9980-compliant external works and PAS 2035 energy efficiency projects is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and commercial software.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field being advantageous.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.
