Nutrition Services Associate

Job Summary:
The Nutrition Services Associate will be responsible for determining nutrition eligibility of applicants/clients within program guidelines and prescribing appropriate food packages. This role requires assessing nutritional status/eligibility for program services by using the VENA technique process/food frequency history, assessing growth patterns, weight patterns, biochemical values, and medical history. The successful candidate will set dietary goals based on the assessment and provide patient counseling specific to the individual's nutritional needs. Additionally, referrals for high-risk counseling with a Nutritionist will be made when appropriate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Determine nutrition eligibility of applicants/clients within program guidelines
- Prescribe appropriate food packages
- Assess nutritional status/eligibility for program services
- Set dietary goals based on the assessment
- Provide patient counseling specific to the individual's nutritional needs
- Make referrals for high-risk counseling with a Nutritionist when appropriate
Requirements:
- Must complete required training to obtain the Certification as a Competent Professional Authority (CPA) within 6 months of hire
- Basic knowledge of nutrition and nutritional standards
- Ability to conduct interviews and collect information
- Ability to interpret, document, calculate, and compile routine data
- Experience providing patient education and/or communicating information to individuals
- Good communication skills, verbally and in writing, to interact with a variety of patients, peers, and supervisors
- Ability to work effectively individually and as a team member
- Experience multi-tasking and prioritizing workloads
- Skills using computer systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Training, job experience, or coursework in Nutrition, Dietetics, food services, or a related area
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Experience obtaining blood samples/finger sticks, and taking heights and weights of individuals
