Job Title: Senior Network Management Centre Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Management Centre Engineer to join our team at ScottishPower. As a key member of our telecoms function, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of network operations, defining best practice, and ensuring compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Network management checks: Conduct routine checks to ensure network health and stability, and manage and assure network CMDB.
  • Network monitoring and resolution standards: Maintain monitoring, incident management, and fault resolution standards and policies.
  • Vendor management: Work with vendors to maintain and improve operational performance and practices.
  • Performance management: Set and review operational KPIs, observe network traffic patterns, and identify improvements.
  • Proactive problem management: Seek out and manage network vulnerabilities and manage improvements.
  • Assure documentation: Perform assurance checks to ensure comprehensive, accurate, up-to-date, and suitable documentation for live network services.
  • Service acceptance checks and approvals: Perform checks on service changes and improvements, and approve network changes.
  • Emergency response: Participate in incident resolution calls as a point of escalation, maintaining communications with key stakeholders.
  • Change management: Manage and support changes in the telecoms environment.

Requirements:

We are looking for candidates with a degree in a related discipline, supported by relevant IP certifications (CISCO and/or Nokia), and prior experience as a Senior NMC Engineer, Senior Engineer, or similar.

SME-level detailed technical knowledge of Network Architecture and Network Management Systems, administration on OSS Systems, configuring/customizing/building Windows operating systems, high availability, Linux, SQL databases, VMWare, DNS, Power BI, scripting.

Technical knowledge of IP Networks and associated network management systems, including understanding of IP/transmission protocols: IPv6, DWDM, NTP, DNS, OSPF, BGP, SCTP, MTP, MPLS, STP, etc.

Experience in Firewalls, Linux Servers, Python Scripting Language, VMware vCentre beneficial.

Experience of using optimal test strategies, methodologies, and principles for critical telecom services.

Knowledge within an operations environment using service management frameworks such as ITIL, with experience of managing network incidents and problems.

Expertise in network deployment, monitoring, management, and troubleshooting, with knowledge of Network Management Systems such as Cisco Prime, Nokia NFM-P, network monitoring and configuration tools and software, and the ability to optimize configurations.

Prior experience working in a business-critical environment, with strong interpersonal skills and comfortable partnering across the business and with vendors and suppliers.
