Serco is currently recruiting for a Trainee Technician Engineer to join our team in Derby. The key purpose of the role is to work on our railway industry projects, whilst acquiring the necessary knowledge, skills and qualifications to grow with our business.

As a Trainee Technician Engineer, you will assist in the design, build, evaluation, calibration and documentation of electronic systems used for testing in the railway environment. You will also assist in the installation and operation of these systems on railway vehicles and infrastructure, and in the processing of recorded data and production of test reports for customers.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and building electronic systems for testing in the railway environment;
  • Installing and operating electronic systems on railway vehicles and infrastructure;
  • Processing recorded data and producing test reports for customers;
  • Attending any training courses deemed necessary by the Principal Engineer.

Requirements include:

  • Numerate, accurate, with a good level of literacy;
  • A keen interest in Electrical and Electronic Engineering;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a team or autonomously, as required;
  • Excellent timekeeping and organisational skills;
  • Willingness to work non-office hours and in remote locations on occasions.
